I unearthed these images from deterioration and decay found on various surfaces distressed by the elements. Tending toward abstract expressionism, organic layers of texture, shape and color suggest emotions, often ambiguous, and sure to vary from person to person. The works are divorced from any sense of their original small scale or subject matter. They symbolize the resilience of beauty, ceaselessly emerging from unlikely, seemingly ugly places. The entire Unearthed series contemplates the duality of destruction and creativity, what is worthless or worthwhile.
